About Us
Our Classes and Groups
Wind Ensemble: This is the high school band curricular class that includes students in grades 9-12 who play a wind or percussion instrument. Students study music on both an individual and ensemble level through performances scattered throughout the year. Assessments are done so that students will become more masterful at their instrument and reading music each year they are in the ensemble. Students are encouraged to participate in MTSBOA Mid-State band auditions, solo and ensemble, and local honor bands.
Marching Band: This is an extra-curricular group that includes all high school wind ensemble members as well as select middle school students. We have two weeks of band camp in July, then rehearse on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45-6pm with performances at Friday night football games and Saturday competitions. The season typically lasts from July to early November.
A.P Music Theory: This is a curricular course offered every other year during BDP Study Hall. Students must be in either band, choir, or piano and be able to read both treble and bass clef before beginning the course. Students study the written elements of music on a high level as well as learn to sight sing and analyze complex compositions. Students must request to be in the class first and be in grades 10-12.
Group Piano: Group Piano is a curricular beginner piano course designed for students that have never played piano before and would like to learn. Students will learn how to read music and play at a beginner level by the end of the course. Students will be provided a piano each day to play and practice on. If there is space in the class, students with piano experience are welcome but must first consult with Ms. Goad.
Jazz Band: Jazz Band is an extra-curricular ensemble that rehearses in the spring semester either before or after school. The Jazz Band performs at the Hendersonville Jazz Festival in April as well as concerts in the spring.
Winter Guard: This is an extra-curricular group that includes students in band, color guard, and students who just want to give color guard a shot. It begins with try-outs in November and competes from January - April. Students learn elements of dance, flag, rifle, and sabre work and perform to a recorded track of music.
