Ensembles and Offerings
Concert Band
This ensemble is the cornerstone of our high school band program. All students participating in our program are members of this ensemble, as it forms the basic building blocks of a strong musician. The Concert Band performs numerous concerts throughout the year--including Winter Concert, Spring Concert, Concert Performance Assessment (CPA), Graduation, and other community events. Students in this ensemble are encouraged to participate in Sumner All-County Honors Band, MTSBOA Mid-State band auditions, All-State Band, Solo and Ensemble Festival, and various college honors bands.
Marching Band
The White House Band of Pride Marching Band is the most highly visible and competitive ensemble in our Band Program. The competitive season kicks off with 2 weeks of Band Camp after the 4th of July holiday. Full Band rehearsals are Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, while Percussion and Guard rehearse on an additional sectional day. The Marching Band performs at all Friday night home football games (and select away games), and Saturday competitions between August and November.
Percussion Ensemble
The Percussion Ensemble performs challenging literature in chamber and large ensemble settings. Each Spring, the ensemble participates in the MTSBOA Solo/Ensemble Festival. Additional performances include the Spring Percussion Concert and numerous Kentucky and Tennessee percussion festivals.
Jazz Band
Jazz Band is an extra-curricular ensemble that rehearses in the spring semester after school. The Jazz Band performs at local and regional jazz festivals and events.
Winter Guard
This is an extra-curricular group that includes students in band, color guard, and students who just want to give color guard a shot. It begins with try-outs in November and competes from January - April. Students learn elements of dance, flag, rifle, and sabre work and perform to a recorded track of music.
A.P Music Theory
AP Music Theory is an advanced musical ear training, notation, and analysis class offered year during BDP Study Hall. Students must be in either band, choir, or piano and be able to read both treble and bass clefs before beginning the course. Students study the written elements of music on a high level as well as learn to sight sing. Students are admitted by request, and must be in Grades 10-12.
Group Piano
Group Piano is a curricular beginner piano course designed for students that have never played piano before and would like to learn. Students will learn how to read music and play at a beginner level by the end of the course. Students will be provided a piano each day to play and practice on. If there is space in the class, students with piano experience are welcome but must first consult with Mr. Mudd.
